The Union Home Ministry on Saturday announced the medals in different categories on the eve of 71st Republic Day. In all, 126 J&K Police personnel are among the awardees of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, Meritorious Service and Gallantry.
Sp Katra Naresh Singh got Gallantry for his brave and daring act during the much publicized Bhirti Katra encounter in which 3 LeT militants were killed near Katra. Naresh Singh led the Police front from the front during the encounter. Naresh Singh is a KPS officer of 2004 batch and has served at many important and sensitive positions during his 16 year career including SDP Bari Brahmana, SDPO Akhnoor, SPDO Nowshera among others. He is currently posted as Superintendent of Police Katra.

Congratulating the officer along with other award winners and their families, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh said the awards show the exemplary courage and dedication shown by the police personnel in service of the nation. He wished them more success and recognition in future.

The DGP said during the past one year, 157 terrorists, including foreigners, were neutralised. Various terror networks were smashed and overground workers were arrested. He said the police along with other security forces were on the forefront stabilising the situation, particularly in south Kashmir. He said in recognition of dedication and hard work shown by the officers and personnel in the maintenance of law and order, the Union Home Ministry bestowed these honours on the J&K Police.
